Forklift 102
Hands on Forklift Driver Training

While driving a forklift may seem simple nothing is farther from the truth. Since forklift steer from the rear they are more like driving a boat than a car. Also, forklifts have the ability to turn very sharply and can get out of control easily because of the weight balance.
The driver training course gives students a firm feel for the steering as well as driving backwards. We utilize slalom courses, and practice in our warehouse with pallet placement and retrieval. The course is an individual course so there will be no other students driving the forklift except the student. Since we reserve the forklift for each student  for the entire class period, classes must be reserved in advance and require that they be paid for in advance before the class is reserved.
Some of the training includes:
  • Vehicle inspection
  • Driving forward and backward
  • Driving on slight grades
  • Pallet placement
  • Re-Fueling
  • Warehouse terminology
  • in some cases, practical experience with loading and unloading trucks.
